Mickey Mantle Autographs

The name Mickey Mantle conjures thoughts of one of the best players in baseball and one of the most desired autographs in sports.

Mantle was one of the first baseball players to sign autographs at baseball shows for financial remuneration.  Mantle was top billing for numerous baseball shows and his autograph sold for more than many other baseball stars.  In the early 1990s, Mantle's autograph on photos, gloves, and baseballs, were sold for more than $100.

Mantle signed autographs at dinner parties, golf tournaments, and his upscale restaurant in New York City.  In his later years, Mantle signed thousands of autographs under contract with Upper Deck.  His autographs appeared on a variety of media including baseball jerseys, baseball cards, and baseball caps.  Being an obliging and prolific signer, his autograph is anything but rare.

Mantle's autograph has continued to escalate in value as demand has increased over time.  The problem for autograph collectors is that many Mantle autographs are forged.  Mantle autographs on slips of paper or index cards are nearly impossible to validate.  Many photos reportedly signed by Mantle have clever forgeries.  Authentication of Mantle's autograph is made even more difficult by the fact that his autograph pattern changed dramatically over the years.  Serious collectors are better assured of obtaining an authentic Mickey Mantle autograph when it is written on a document such as a contract or check.

Autographs of Mickey Mantle on sheets of paper or index cards are usually valued up to $100.  Photographs purportedly bearing Mantle's real autograph are valued between $250 to $1,000.  Mantle's signature on a baseball depends on many factors, but may be valued for as much as $2,000.  Many baseballs autographs by Mantle are signed with colorful expletives that may generate interest, but may also diminish it's collectible value.

Mickey Mantle is recognized as one of baseball's greatest ballplayers.  His legendary status will continue to inspire generations of future autograph collectors.
